Supporting Rare Breeds
Animals are as much a part of domestic life in Virginia today; as it was in 18th-century Dinwiddie County. Many of its earliest inhabitants came here from Colonial Williamsburg, the Geddy and Berwell families just to name afew.
Animals plow fields, pull carriages, lay eggs, give milk, and serve as pets—and some end up on the dinner table.
Through them, we learn about the usefulness and adaptability of livestock, and how our rare breeds program helps preserve the bloodlines of these now un-common horses, sheep, goats and poultry.
